The organisation has appointed Arun Anant as CEO. Anant, who was at The Economic Times prior to this as Vice-President, has already assumed his new responsibilities. In his new role, Anant would be steering the channel, and working on beefing up all its functions. UTV News has already been steadily adding people to its team, beginning with Govindraj Ethiraj as Editor of the channel. UTV News is expected to be an English business news channel. Details on the targeted launch date, the channel’s target or USP are not available as yet. The industry has been rife with rumours of UTV being in talks with an international partner to associate on this venture. One of the names reported was that of Walt Disney-owned company American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News. However, subsequently, Walt Disney Co denied any such talks. UTV itself is mum on the subject, not making even a single announcement on this news venture. UTV officials didn’t offer any comments at the time of filing this report. The English news channels space in India is not as cluttered as the Hindi news space has become. At present, there are only four Indian players, and two international players in this domain.
